My research and teaching focus on the questions of active citizenship and the rhetorical construction of American democracy.

I teach classes on activism, social movements, citizenship & the public sphere, rhetorical theory, and early American political discourse.

My research has been published in The Quarterly Journal of Speech, Rhetoric & Public Affairs, and Presidential Studies Quarterly.  My book, Founding Fictions, is newly published from the University of Alabama Press.
